To wish you all a happy Christmas here are a couple of poems found from snippets of conversationsI have over heard as I have been out Christmas shopping these last few days.
Next year
People need to look at themselves
My card’s been declined
I don’t know what you want me to do
We’ve got to remember we are always up against the weather
I needed to hear that
He’s so incompetent
I’m so tired
Can’t make every one happy
I’ve not suffered much
But I’m still paying for it
It’s bitter out there
Oh for goodness sake
You’re brave
How’s he doing after the do?
Doing well considering
He said nothing
I shouldn’t
No, that’s fine
Do you remember?
Gonna struggle
I’m ready for a change now
I could do more
What have you got to apologise for?
Five, four, threeeee
I decided that would be it
No, put it back
I nearly crashed the car
He wasn’t moaning
Put it back NOW!
Each line is from some one different and I’ve changed the order I heard it in. I didn’t go out specifically to write a found poem but something about Christmas crowds made people more animated and the start of a poem was found.
The next one is more of an exercise in me playing with the rhythms of words to paint a series of small vignettes.
Teens laugh at seeing their teacher out of context, who is trying to keep his exasperation suppressed
Friends who have moved out of town reunite over coffee, sharing stories of their love life
Market stall holders hope for better weather, and people start to spend to release the pressure
A man screams at his wife in the street, as she has caught up with his deceit
Mums tell their kids to put that back NOW, and they obey, thinking Santa’s watching somehow
Shop workers wear Santa hats, as they sing ‘do you need a bag with that?’
I could probably tidy these poems up a bit more but I still need to wrap! So no more tinkering , just sharing & wishing you all a good Christmas, however that looks to you this year.
I’m going out today, precisely to listen to the maddening hoards. It’s research right? Shopping is finished so it’s a whimsy, inspired by this post.
