Every cloud has a silver lining is the saying. It is meant to convey that there is always good to be found no matter how bad the situation. Neither is true. I love a beautiful cloud as much as the next optimist, but like all optimists I am always disappointed. 1
The skies were so beautiful late last year, but 2024 has started as a canvas of bleak grey.
Every time I see a beautiful sky I wish I could paint it. Capture it. Stare at it endlessly. But it passes so quickly, pulling the light down to the horizon with blazes of beauty. A reminder that it all passes. The beauty and the bleak.
All we get is the moment. I typically notice utter beauty of skies when I am driving or at my desk when these displays aren’t open to savour, just glimpse.
I have tried to write poetry about these moments. Poetry is so good at trying to capture the feeling of fleeting moments. One day I hope to find the words that do these moments justice. Either my own or the perfect poem by someone else.
There is no better feeling than reading or hearing a poem that describes something you have always felt but have never been able to describe. Like someone has reached into your soul to see the world through your eyes, but with a glittering eloquence.
Poetry is like the pockets of light shining through night time clouds. The light in the space between the sun and the sea. But once you have found the perfect poem you get to return to it.
Hello again. I still spend days trying to work out how to message someone on here. To no avail. Do you have an email address I can send you over some details about guest posting? xx
Oh it’s so good. I’m enjoying it immensely. Don’t suppose I could tempt you to author a guest post? I’m looking for people to write me, “this poem works” posts. Where you choose a fave poem (could be your own), and tell a story about why it works for you. Might include some technical craft notes, or why it means so much, whatever you like. Then at the end leave us with a writing prompt (might be related to the poem you’ve shared or just one that you have found useful or come back to..) x
